Program designed for ages 11-14
Slammers has been running an Arm Velocity program for older players for over 15 years.
We have seen many new programs come out recently most notably Driveline. The Slammers staff has learned about the Driveline program and we have 8 staff members who are Driveline certified so we understand their process. We incorporate a lot of the programming from Driveline in our High School program and have learned a lot regarding the drills and patterning that Driveline uses.
We also believe that mechanics is an integral part of pitching. We understand that players are and will always be in the pursuit of velocity, but we want to make sure it is done correctly and safely. We have partnered with Bio Kinetics 3D and Bob Keyes who do bio mechanical analysis on many Major League players, most notably 2020 Cy Young award winner Trevor Bauer. We will teach the players the drills that we have learned from Bob and his group.
The information we have learned over the years with High School AVP group has led us to develop a NEW Youth AVP program which we will launch in September of this year. Our goal is to teach the players proper Arm Care as well as mechanics through video analysis and dry ground mechanics drills.
We will also introduce plyo ball drills and some weighted ball throwing. The players will train with our Performance staff each day after our throwing workouts. The performance workouts will consist of age specific exercises designed for overall strength.
The end goal of the program will be to develop a foundation of corrective mechanical exercises that safely allows for increased throwing velocity while maintaining biomechanical control thru the Kinematic sequence.
We do want to be clear that this program is not just for Slammers players.
The Arm Velocity program is broken into THREE STAGES:
STAGE 1:
Is dedicated to strength. Building functional strength to increase power and control of body. Runs from late August through October.
STAGE 2:
Incorporates a graduated throwing program which includes using weighted balls from 4oz to 6oz for overloading and under-loading drills depending on age (otherwise 5oz ball use only), mechanical work, and continued strength training. Also, included in this phase is the use of technology like Rapsodo. Runs from November thru late December.
STAGE 3:
The AVP regimen combines total body power production with weighted ball and pitching related plyometrics to create a multifaceted pitching strength program.
Measured Performance: Arm and ball velocity are regularly measured and documented to provide objective feedback and ensure program success. We use Rapsodo technology to analyze, correct and perfect.
